We would like to begin our Club Member Profile section by introducing our current President, James "Jake" Bradley. "Jake" was born in Greenock, Scotland. He and his wife Betty and their two children moved to New Jersey, USA in 1957. Jake played professionally for the Hiberian F.C> from 1947 - 1951 at outside left in the era of that famous HIBS team which featured players like Smith, Johnson, Reilly, Turnball and Ormond, all of which were Scottish Internationals. Jake had his share of games and was "capped" for the Scottish National Under 21 Team against England in 1947 and played in the Scottish Cup finals vs. Motherwell at Hampden in 1951. He played professional football in Scotland and England until emigrating to the USA. Jake has continued to play and coach soccer in New Jersey and was one of the first Class A of FIFA qualified coaches in the USA, number 6 on the list. Jake was one of the coaches who created the soccer explosion in the USA and contributed, along with many other Club member coaches, to the naming of Kearny, New Jersey as "Soccertown USA". This occured during the 1984 World Cup, when local kids, John Harkes, Tony Meola and Tab Tamos played for the USA National Team. The club's long association with soccer will be explored in other pages within the web site. The purpose of this section is to reestablish old relationships for club members. |
